Health Alert – Estonia (April 7)

Health Alert – U.S. Embassy Tallinn, Estonia (April 7, 2020)

Location: Estonia

Event: The Finnish Government has confirmed passenger ferry traffic in the direction from Tallinn to Helsinki will be suspended starting Saturday, April 11 and will continue solely for freight and cargo.  This restriction is expected to remain in place until May 13.

Finnair will commence daily flights from Tallinn to Helsinki on Tuesday, April 14.  Flight schedules can be found on the Finnair website.  Americans departing Estonia who wish to transit through Helsinki are advised to check the U.S. Embassy in Helsinki’s website for the latest on whether transfer out of Helsinki is allowed.

Flights from Tallinn to Frankfurt remain available, and depart three times per week.  Travelers have found it only possible to book a United States-bound flight through Frankfurt by booking two separate legs – Tallinn-Frankfurt, and then Frankfurt-onward.  All flights arrive in Frankfurt after the United States-bound flights depart.  Travelers will need to stay in the airport or airport hotel overnight.

Americans seeking to depart Estonia for the United States are urged to contact us at acstallinn@state.gov for assistance.

The Estonian Health Board and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) have issued similar recommendations encouraging the use of face masks in public places, particularly in areas where it is difficult to follow social distancing guidelines such as grocery stores and public transportation.  The full CDC announcement can be found here.  The Estonian Consumer Protection and Technical Regulatory Authority has issued these instructions on how to make a homemade cloth mask.
